about

Howard learned Graemsay Jig from the playing of Colin Cater. At the time of recording the album, we had little information on this tune other than the name. In 2016 we were contacted by Harald Leask, who told us that the tune was written by his father, Magnus Leask, the lighthouse keeper at Hoy High lighthouse on the island of Graemsay in Orkney for several years. Magnus was originally from Shetland, and we then discovered the coincidence that he was at school with Sean's Mum! Many thanks to Harald for shedding additional light on the source of this tune.

The Star Above the Garter was made popular by Kerry fiddlers Denis Murphy and Julia Clifford. Despite its Irish origins it adapts well to a more rumbustuous English style of playing.
